Once you know what test to take it is time to choose a company with whom to test with. There are only three companies that I recommend that you test with. They are FamilyTreeDNA, AncestryDNA, and 23andME. Below you will find a short description of what tests they offer but please take the time to read about all three of them. Each one has different purposes, features, and tools for genealogy. We try and provide you with the most complete information about each one of them.

AncestryDNA

Ancestry DNA offers only the atDNA test, but the extensive member family trees make them one of the leaders. Learn More

*23andMe only offers one test but you get information on your atDNA, mtDNA, and y-DNA. I have read that the 23andme is not quite the same y-DNA test as FTDNA. Also, they do not share your matches on either the mtDNA or y-DNA. It is displayed, but that does not necessarily mean that you will match. You have to go deeper and right now only FTDNA does this on all their tests.
